Revision history.
Every release of WBTRK and what it brought. Songs from any earlier version open in the current one; where a release fixed how something sounded, the entry says so.
3.3.2October 2026current
WBTRK becomes WBTRK Studio: a window that holds the whole song on the Mac and the iPad, a new icon on all three platforms, and the fixes of a deep check on each of them.
The Studio window
- On the Mac, one window: the song and its chain, three phrases side by side, the table, the instrument, fx and mixer tabs with knobs, and a piano that lights the notes as they play. It zooms as a whole, from 75 to 175%.
- The mouse drags any value — notes, numbers, knobs, faders — and ⇧-drag selects a block, across columns too; a right-click offers set instrument, set effect and fill velocity.
- The Mac saves into the file it opened (⌘S), reverts to it, lists recent songs and asks before unsaved changes are lost. A bounce can be stopped.
- On the iPad, the same window, worked by touch exactly like the iPhone; tools and piano fold the lower frame and the piano away.
- The z x c and a s d rows are a piano on every page; Q and E step the page's chain, phrase, instrument, fx or table.
Writing
- tap sets the tempo from your taps, and a tap on the bpm types it in, 20 to 400.
- Every number is decimal now, on every platform.
- The engine and effect-type lists run A to Z.
- On iPhone and iPad, a tap on the theme, font or language name lists every choice.
Sound
- SAMPLE gains start and end points and a high pass filter.
- The LFO's waves: sine, triangle, saw up, saw down, square, random and smooth random.
- On iPhone and iPad a MASTER volume sets the level of the whole song.
- One stereo scope of the mix in the top bar.
Also
- The WBTRK Studio icon and name on all three platforms; the lock-screen player shows the Studio mark.
- STUDIO's outlines lighter, STUDIOLIGHT's darker; ARCADE and PIXEL drawn to fit the Studio window.
- Fixes from the deep checks: the song's end stops cleanly, a plug-in lets go when its instrument changes and comes back on undo, the sound comes back after an interruption, in the background too, a piano key goes dark when its sound ends, and the audio starts off the main thread, so the app never waits on it.
3.2October 2026
A sound library, drum kits and a faster way to write.
- Sound library: over 450 ready-made sounds across every engine, sorted by what they are — drums, bass, keys, bells, plucked, strings, winds, voice, leads, pads, fx. Each one plays with one tap before you pick it, and they are balanced to the same loudness.
- 96 classic DX7 patches in the WOVEN engine.
- DRUM: a new analog drum voice — kick, snare, clap, hats, toms, rim, cowbell, clave, crash, ride, shaker.
- DRUM KIT: ten drum slots in one instrument, shown as KCK SNR CHH… in the phrase. Eight built-in kits, or build your own from any sound or sample.
- Save your own presets for any engine; kits keep their samples.
- Hold a cell and slide to set a note or a value — the new default way to write.
- OFF in the note column, and select / copy / paste cell by cell.
- Tap an engine, effect or preset name to pick it from a list.
- MIDI keyboards: step-record every 1, 2, 4 or 8 rows, take every key at full velocity if you prefer, and end held notes with OFF in live recording.
- On iPhone and iPad, load and save remember the folder you used last, and share song sends a song by AirDrop, Messages or Mail.
- STUDIOLIGHT, and an option to follow your device's light / dark setting.
- iPhone in landscape shows two pages side by side.
- Clearer singing in SPEECH, and no clicks when a sounding note is played again — old songs play with both fixes.
- A new demo song, night market.
- Value bars stop exactly where you lift your finger.
3.1.1October 2026
- Smoother playback on older iPhones: the heavy instruments — GRAIN, SPEECH, TEXTURE, RESON, MODAL, DRONE and SAMPLE — need a fraction of the processing power, so songs no longer drop out or crackle on devices like the iPhone 13 and 14. The sound itself is unchanged.
3.1September 2026
The biggest release since 2.0: two engines and an effect built on open-source Eurorack DSP, automation, a proper sampler, full keyboard and game-controller control, and a long audit of the engine.
New sound
- ROUND — a resonator with its own exciter: modal bar, sympathetic strings, plucked string, FM voice, a quantized string chord, a string in a hall. Every note is a strum; voices sets how many ring at once.
- WOVEN — a macro-oscillator with 24 models: analog, FM, wavetable, chords, speech, drums and more, under three controls and a low-pass gate. The chord models name their chord and light it on the piano.
- FOGGY — a granular texture effect: granular, stretch, loop delay and spectral modes, with freeze, feedback and its own reverb.
- AUT — automation. Put it on a row and the instrument and the effect morph to the next different ones across the rows between, with six curves. A held note or a drone morphs without being struck again.
- CUT — a hard stop beside KILL: it stops an instrument outright, release and all. KILL is unchanged, so existing songs are too.
- MODAL gained a retrig switch (restart, or ring on); ROUND and WOVEN carry the full AMP ENVELOPE; TEXTURE's resonance is level-neutral.
Timing
- A 192 PPQN tick clock: grooves are lists of ticks per step, written in a groove editor on the instrument; tables and NOTE-DLY count in ticks.
- Tempo-synced effects offer dotted values.
- auto bpm reads a sample's tempo and beat count off its audio.
The sampler
- Time stretch (the tempo follows, the pitch stays) and vinyl tempo match (pitch and all).
- Fine tune in cents, gap-chop for one-shots recorded in a row, round-robin and random slice play, loops inside a slice, save with chop markers, resample a channel through its effects, and audio in from other apps — paste, drop, or "open in WBTRK".
- Every edge, loop wrap and cut is faded, and slice points snap to zero crossings, so nothing clicks. Four hits in one row play together at full level — a chopped break is a drum kit.
Control
- A keyboard edits everything on iPad and Mac: arrows, digits in the base you see, ENTER, ⇧ + arrows to nudge, Delete, Space, Tab for pages, ⌘Z, ⌘C / ⌘V. A row cursor on INS and FX, mixer keys, and the grids scroll to keep the cursor in view.
- A Bluetooth game controller (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch Pro, MFi) drives the tracker the LSDJ way, with every button mappable under OPTIONS.
- SCALE lock has a strict mode that snaps every entry to the key; the velocity wheel has two rings; the phone no longer changes page on a swipe.
Plug-ins and export
- A hosted AUv3 instrument passes through its channel's insert like every built-in voice, and the FX column's audio effects and PAN apply to it; effects that cannot reach a plug-in are struck through in the grid.
- The first note of a phrase no longer vanishes on a hosted plug-in.
- A bounce is as long as the song and rings out every tail; the live song end rings out too.
Also
- The fog weaver demo shows the new engines and automation.
- A licences screen under OPTIONS › ABOUT; the help pages rewritten for 3.1.
- Dozens of audit fixes: MIDI clock, the tempo clock, hidden rows, RANDOM's release, engine memory, chords in key, the last row of every song, clicks at chop ends and on retriggers.
3.0September 2026
- LIVE MODE — a performance page. Launch phrases by hand on six scenes, everything sounding at once; quantised launches from "right away" to the end of the phrase; play styles (queue, once, loop one, ping-pong, random, always); six effect keys per scene, held or latched; a master scene the whole set counts from; KEEP to write a good take back into the song; haptics on iPhone.
- Twelve channels, shown as two pages of six on the song page and the mixer.
- Render at 16 or 24 bit, dithered; export options simplified.
- The app speaks 日本語, and so does SPEECH — kana and romaji.
- Plug-in audio reaches the bounce; the mixer's faders, mute and solo reach plug-ins; recording reaches all four note columns; PANIC moved to the top bar.
- Demos ship as files — first light and the drum & bass night bus.
- "iron lung", a nu-rock song written entirely in the tracker.
2.6August 2026
- WBTRK for Mac — a native Mac app, one purchase across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Four panes on one screen, a menu bar, a typing-keyboard piano.
- The clean studio theme and two pro faces, IBM Plex Mono and JetBrains Mono, beside the retro ones.
- The AUv3 scan lists only real plug-ins; hex numbers are off on a fresh install.
2.5August 2026
- Ableton Link: one tempo across every Link app, quantised launch, phase lock.
- Export MIDI (one track per channel, real lengths and velocities) and render stems, channel by channel and sample-aligned.
- The VEL column: velocity per note, recorded from a MIDI keyboard or set by hand.
- The MIDI OUT engine — an instrument that plays external gear, with program, bank and a latency offset.
- Effects grew: vibrato delay and waves, tremolo waves, an arp gate, key-tracked ring mod and comb, a flange dry blend, slide targets.
- Recording re-records the row — notes and velocity replaced, instrument and FX kept. Pane chips and a persistent layout on iPad.
2.4August 2026
- A MASTER insert on the whole mix and a dry/wet blend on every AUv3 insert.
- The full-screen player: five visualisers under the song, colours from your theme.
- MODAL's LFOs reach its own controls and it gets a second LFO; every LFO shows a live marker on the row it moves.
- A new app icon; the lock-screen player fixed; text boxes always release the keyboard on Mac and iPad.
2.3July 2026
- The ambient pack: DRONE (three oscillators, wavefolder, low-pass gate), RESONATOR (an exciter striking a tuned loop) and TEXTURE (noise through two resonant filters), ten presets each.
- XL REVERB — decay from half a second to thirty, with pre-delay, damping and a modulated tail. The original REVERB untouched.
- True stereo instruments — every oscillator has its place in the field — and the AMP ENVELOPE's hold switch.
- iPad drawn at its real size, no magnification on rotation, the grids using the width; phrase length as three buttons.
2.2July 2026
- iPad: the interface fills the screen; the song page shows 32 rows at once.
- Plug-ins: songs remember the plug-in and its exact sound, notes are sample-accurate, tempo and transport follow the host, a crashed plug-in reloads.
- Timing: RETRIG no longer nudges other channels, MIDI clock is timestamped, live playback and rendered WAVs match exactly.
- Autosave seconds after every edit, songs visible in the Files app, .wbtrk files open from Files and AirDrop, classic pattern queueing, play from the selected song row, a demo that tours every engine and effect, mute/solo for plug-in channels and MIDI.
2.1July 2026
- SPEECH — a talking, singing robot with a 56-word bank, four voices, TALK and SING modes and LYRICS, where one column picks the word and the next carries the melody.
- GRAIN — a granular cloud over any recording.
- MODAL — struck-resonator percussion: marimba, bells, kalimba, steel pan.
- A lock-screen player with cover art in your theme, the "pocket tracker" demo that sings about itself, rock-solid playback with the screen off, graceful saturation on the master, exports that match live playback.
2.0July 2026
- The SAMPLER: record, trim, normalise, loop, ping-pong, reverse, beat-chop into playable slices.
- AUv3 hosting: play your installed instrument plug-ins from the sequencer.
- MIDI in and out with step and live recording, plus MIDI clock.
- The MODX dual-oscillator engine with a four-LFO matrix and the wavetable draw editor.
- New effects: tempo-synced gate and autopan, retrigger, chorus, RANDOM dice, per-channel TEMPO.
- Per-instrument swing and scale lock, the chord picker, the radial wheel, iPad support, hex numbers, 26 themes and a theme editor, undo everywhere, autosave, and a new icon.
